about

The backing for this was a result of generative music explorations. After hearing Witi Ihimaera recite his poem "Our Watch Now", I thought this would be a perfect fit. I recorded Witi in 2021 and created this track from combining the recording with a generative piece. Originally it was intended for my album 'Murmur' but Rattle Music & I decided it didn't really fit with the album as it evolved. (A version of the generative track became 'Halting Problem' on the album).

With Witi's blessing, I am releasing this as a single now. Such a powerful and timely message in Witi's poem deserves a vehicle to deliver it. I hope the music does this the justice it deserves.
